Hong Kong
28th September 2014 to 7th October 2014
This trip has been quite a few months in the planning. The idea came to me when we traveled to Phuket in April. Our original flight booking was with Scoot. We did not end up flying with them because they kept changing the flight times until theyeventually cancelled our flight. We ended up with a credit voucher and I had the wonderful idea of using it for us to visit Hong Kong and especially Disneyland. And our holiday has finally arrived.
Our Scoot flight out of Perth was leaving at 6.45pm on Sunday 28th September. We were flying via Singapore and due to land in HD at about 5.30am. I had finally decided on a hotel and had booked for the night of the 28th so we could go straight to our room when we arrived.
As the saying goes "the best laid plans" and I always felt that something was going to mess things up for us. That something was a text message I received about 20 minutes before we were due to head to the airport. It seems that our plane had some mechanical issues in Singapore and would now not depart until 9.05pm. Our new arrival time into Singapore was 3.05am. All good - except our onward flight with Scoot to Hong Kong was departing at 1.35am!!
I rang Scoot - it seems that this is the only flight they have between Singapore and Hong Kong and all they could do would be put us on the next available flight - leaving Singapore on the 31st September - I don't think so!
We decided to head to airport at about 5 and then just sit and wait and see. Check in was quick and easy. Departure lounge was uneventful. We made the decision to wait for our plane to arrive before we rebooked our new flights. We wanted to have a fairly good idea of what time we would be flying out of Perth just in case we wasted our money on even more flights. Go onto the Tiger sight and just a few minutes and $500 later I had booked new flights leaving Singapore at 6am, arriving in to Hong Kong at 10am, still early enough to be able to get some time sightseeing.
Our Scoot flight was fine. I had booked extra leg room seats and they were well worth the money. Lots more comfort. Transfer in Singapore was painless and onto our Tiger flight which was about 1/3 full and uneventful.
Arrival in to Hong Kong was very interesting. The airport in HUGE!!!!! We organised a sim card for Colly and some Octopus cards before getting in to a taxi and heading to our hotel.
I had booked an executive room in the Novotel Nathan Road and I am very glad that I did. While the room is not spacious, it is very nice and we have been very well looked after since we arrived. Breakfast is complimentary (normally $128HK) andh is yummy, afternoon tea (cold drinks, cakes, sandwiches) and evening cocktails (alcohol - wine, spirits & beer) and nibbles, which is quite nice - and it is all free!
